By Manjeet Negi: Two terrorists were eliminated in Jammu and Kashmir after the military’s intelligence issued an alert for likely infiltration from the Line of Control towards the Machhal sector. The Indian Army thwarted the infiltration and recovered two AK series rifles, magazines and a large cache of war-like stores.
The army had been on high alert since May 1 and additional ambushes, including those of Special Operations Group (SOG) Kupwara were deployed at likely routes of infiltration. Early on May 3, troops, based on specific intelligence input, sighted the infiltrators and nabbed the two.
In a statement, the Indian Army said, “The alert troops in ambush braved continuous bad weather marked by incessant rainfall, poor visibility and a significant drop in temperature for two consecutive nights. Early morning on 03 May at around 08.30 AM, terrorists were sited by the troops having infiltrated onto their own side of the Line of Control. An intense firefight ensued, resulting in the elimination of two terrorists.”

“Bodies of two terrorists have been recovered along with two AK series rifles, magazines and a huge quantity of war-like stores. A further extensive search of the area is in progress. The identity of terrorists and the affiliated terrorist group is being ascertained. This successful intelligence-based operation is yet another example of close synergy between the Indian Army, JKP and all agencies,” the defence force further stated.
It further mentioned contraband that was recovered by the troops, which included AK 46 magazines, AK 47 Rounds 159, two AK 47s, and cigarettes with Pakistani markings. They also recovered Pakistani Rupee 660 from the two.
