By Anirban Sinha Roy: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has sought information on who shot Mrityunjay Barman, a 33-year-old BJP worker, following a raid in the Kaliaganj area of Uttar Dinajpur district last week.
Mrityunjay Barman, a tribal youth, was killed amid violence triggered by the alleged rape and murder of a minor girl on April 21. Mrityunjay’s family had accused the police of firing at him without any provocation.

Now, the chief minister has questioned the source of the shots fired. The TMC chief, addressing the media in Malda, pointed fingers at the Border Security Force (BSF), asking if the village was under their control. She called for an investigation to determine who fired at Mritunjay Burman.
She said: “Who fired the shots? I heard that the village is supervised by BSF. Is it true?”
Mamata Banerjee also raised concerns about the delay in the post-mortem report and questioned why it was not released sooner. She called for the Intelligence Bureau to be strengthened and suggested a meeting with the DGs of three neighboring states to address the issue of law and order in border areas.
