By Rohit Kumar Singh: After West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee proposed her Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar to hold a meeting of the opposition parties, a crucial meeting of opposition leaders is likely to take place in Patna in the third week of May.
According to sources, the meeting is likely to take place on either May 17 or May 18, after the Karnataka assembly polls are completed.
SHARAD PAWAR, UDDHAV THACKERAY GIVE CONSENT
Sharad Pawar, who announced his resignation as NCP’s chief earlier this week, and Shiv Sena (UBT) supremo Uddhav Uddhav Thackeray are learnt to have given their consent to attend the meeting in Patna after Bihar Legislative Council chairman and JD(U) leader Devesh Chandra Thakur met both the leaders in Mumbai on Thursday.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal or his representative, Left leaders Sitaram Yechury and D Raja are also expected to attend the meeting after Nitish Kumar met them last month to forge opposition unity ahead of next year’s Lok Sabha elections.

ODISHA, JHARKHAND CMs LIKELY TO PARTICIPATE
According to sources, Nitish Kumar is likely to meet Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who are also likely to participate in the meeting of the opposition parties in Patna.
The proposed meeting has been scheduled tentatively for the third week of May, keeping in mind the ongoing Karnataka assembly election, where all the top Congress leaders are busy campaigning. The southern state will vote on May 10 and results will be declared on May 13.
Last month, Mamata Banerjee, in the presence of Nitish Kumar, proposed the opposition meeting during the latter’s visit to Kolkata in a bid to boost opposition unity.
