By Dipaneeta Das, Indrajit Kundu: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday lashed out at the BJP government at the centre and in Manipur over the violence that shook the northeastern state. Mamata Banerjee alleged that when something happens in Bengal, hundreds of central teams are sent to “defame the Bengal government”.
“When something happens in Bengal, hundreds of central teams are sent here to defame us. But since Manipur is a BJP-ruled state, nothing is being done. But people want to know the figures,” Mamata Banerjee said.
She added, “We don’t know how many people have died due to shoot-at-sight order and general violence. The state government isn’t coming out with the number. Sometime back I learnt the figure is 60-70 deaths.”

Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee expressed concern over the volatile situation in Manipur after clashes broke out between the members of the Meitai community and the tribals last week.
So far, 185 people have reached out to the Bengal government, the CM said. “We are in touch with the Manipur government,” Mamata Banerjee said.
This comes after the Bengal government set up a helpline for those stranded in violence-hit Manipur. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday directed the chief secretary to monitor the evacuation process to help people in “distress and despair”.
Bengal govt brings home 18 students from Manipur
Taking to Twitter, Mamata Banerjee said, “The Bengal government brought home 18 students from West Bengal who were studying at the College of Agriculture, Central Agricultural University, Imphal, Manipur. The students were flown to Kolkata in a flight arranged by the West Bengal government, with the help of the local administration in Manipur who provided safe passage and vehicle support to the students from the university campus to the Imphal airport.”
“The students were pursuing BSc/MSc/Ph.D. The state government is facilitating transportation for the students to their respective residences from Kolkata. This evacuation is separate from the one carried out by the Sikkim government, which brought back 128 students from Manipur,” the Bengal CM tweeted.
“Deeply anguished by the kind of messages and SOS we are receiving from Manipur. I am concerned about the safety of the people of Manipur and others hailing from different parts of the country, now stranded there,” Mamata Banerjee said in a tweet.
