By Shilpa Nair: Expelled All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader O Panneerselvam, or OPS, met Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) chief TTV Dhinakaran on Monday in Chennai.
The meeting between Panneerselvam and TTV Dhinakaran has given impetus to the speculation that the two leaders may join hands ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The meeting comes days after OPS launched ‘Dharmayudham 2.0’ to retrieve AIADMK from current party chief Edappadi K Palaniswami and his supporters.
TTV Dhinakaran is the nephew of VK Sasikala, a close confidante of late CM J Jayalalithaa.
“I will meet VK Sasikala also very soon,” said Panneerselvam after the meeting, adding that the aim of the meeting was to “retrieve the AIADMK from the selfish forces”.
Senior leader Panruti Ramachandran said TTV and OPS will have a working arrangement like CPI and CPI (M).
VK Sasikala has, time and again, spoken about the need for everyone to work together to strengthen the AIADMK.
All three leaders – OPS, TTV Dhinakaran and Sasikala — belong to the dominant Thevar community in Southern Tamil Nadu.
On March 28, the Madras High Court rejected a challenge by O Panneerselvam to his expulsion from the AIADMK and paved the way for Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) to take over as the party general secretary formally.
