One without knowing uses teleprompter: Mamata Banerjee’s veiled dig at PM

By Suryagni Roy: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday took an indirect jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for using teleprompter for delivering speeches during election rallies. Without naming anyone, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo criticised the practice of using a teleprompter without understanding the topic for the sake of winning elections.

“We should not think that during or for just winning elections, one without knowing uses a teleprompter for giving speeches. We should not think or for elections, and say that Tagore was born in Shantiniketan, or buy people for the sake of elections” said Mamata Banerjee.

Mamata Banerjee also urged people to follow the path shown by Rabindranath Tagore and shun egoism. “Tagore’s way of thinking should be followed, and one’s ego needs to be kept aside,” she said during her speech at the celebration of Tagore’s birth anniversary in Kolkata.

Mamata Banerjee added that Tagore’s work provided leadership, and she would bow down in front of people in the words of Tagore. She emphasised that they would recite Tagore when someone speaks of division and construct rather than divide and break.

Banerjee concluded her speech by reciting Tagore’s poem “Where The Mind is Without Fear” to inspire people to work together towards a better future.
