By Rajesh Saha: The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi on Friday extended the judicial custody of Trinamool Congress (TMC) strongman Anubrata Mondal’s daughter Sukanya Mondal till July 12. She is an accused in the cattle smuggling case.
Anubrata Mondal’s chartered accountant Manish Kothari, who was also one of the several accused in the cattle smuggling case, will also remain in custody along with Sukanya. The two are scheduled to be produced before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) special court two months later.
Sukanya Mondal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the cattle smuggling case in West Bengal on April 26. She was summoned by ED at the Delhi headquarters. After prolonged questioning, the central agency arrested her along with her father and some other persons allegedly involved in the case.

Anubrata Mondal is currently lodged at Tihar jail in Delhi. Sukanya has meanwhile submitted a petition seeking immediate bail citing illness. The same bench of Rouse Avenue court is likely to hear this appeal on May 26, sources have claimed.
In a supplementary charge sheet filed last week, the ED claimed that Sukanya was directly involved with many financial transactions pertaining to cattle smuggling to Bangladesh. She has so far denied the allegations, claiming she had no idea about the transactions in question.
The ED in its case has stated that Sukanya’s income showed an exponential growth between 2019 and 2022. During the investigation, Sukanya claimed she had been working as a school teacher since 2014 and that is her only source of income. However, she has admitted to being a shareholder in some companies, though she said she did not know much about it as her father was the one looking after those transactions.
