By India Today News Desk: Reacting to the Opposition’s demand for an assembly elections, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said the state’s progress should not be compromised due to ego.
“Don’t damage Maharashtra out of ego. We are not apprehensive about elections as more than 4,500 candidates representing the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance won the Gram Panchayat polls,” the chief minister said at the Mumbai Tak Baithak.
He said his government has been doing good work as they had started projects which were halted.
Meanwhile, former Maharashtra minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray claimed Eknath Shinde cried and said he would be put in jail if he didn’t join the BJP.
A few days ago, CM Shinde was attacked by Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders over his visit to Lord Ram temple in Ayodhya.
Hitting back at Uddhav Thackeray who had termed Shinde’s Ayodha visit as a photo opportunity, the chief minister said, “The opposition doesn’t have anything to speak about. We are taking Balasaheb’s legacy forward. People who opposed the Ram temple and insulted Savarkar, some people formed the government with those people. Rahul Gandhi insults the country on a foreign land which is an anti-national activity.”
Two Shiv Sena factions emerged when Eknath Shinde, a cabinet minister in the Uddhav-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (Sena-NCP-Congress) government, rebelled against the party leadership in June last year.
