Under trial man who escaped from police custody caught in Kolkata after 3 days

By Suryagni Roy: A man under trial who had fled from police custody, was arrested by the Kolkata Police on Saturday. The arrest came three days after he ran away from the SSKM hospital where he was brought for a checkup last Wednesday. On Saturday, Police arrested him from Dholaghat in South 24 Parganas.

Surjakanta Mondal was 48 years old and had fled early on Wednesday (May 10) morning at 4:30 am.

According to reports, he first went to Howrah station and took train. From there, he reached Burdwan from where he went to Gotan by a bus. He stayed at a friend’s house there and went to Tarakeswar station the next morning.

He then took a train to the Laxmikantapur Railway Station and later stayed at his cousin’s house at the Panchamer Bazar.

On Saturday (May 13), he reached Taranagar at another cousin Keshab Mondal’s house under the Sreenarayanpur Purnachandrapur gram panchayat. He was taking rest after having lunch, when police reached there and arrested him.
