By Rittick Mondal: The West Bengal Board of Primary Education on Monday challenged the Calcutta High Court’s verdict in the West Bengal recruitment scam case, that cancelled the appointments of 36,000 high school teachers. The case will now be heard by a division bench of Calcutta High Court.
The development came two days after the HC bench led by Justice Abhijit Gangopadhay passed an order cancelling the appointments of 36,000 candidates for positions of primary teachers in schools aided and sponsored by the West Bengal government. The court, while passing the verdict, had cited that due procedure was not followed during the recruitment of these candidates. It had claimed that the candidates were “untrained”.

On the same day, the Supreme Court had asked the Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court to reassign the case to another judge after reviewing Justice Gangopadhyay’s interview with a news channel wherein he spoke about the case.
The case, now listed before the Calcutta High Court’s division bench led by Justice Subrata Talukder and Justice Supratim Bhattacharya, is likely to be taken up for hearing on Tuesday, sources said.
The president of the West Bengal Board of Primary Education, Goutam Paul, had earlier said that they are looking into whether the court directive can be legally challenged.
