By Rittick Mondal: The Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government has approached a division bench of the Calcutta High Court challenging an earlier order of the single bench allowing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the alleged recruitment scam across various municipalities in West Bengal.
On April 21 2022, a single-judge bench of the Calcutta HC transferred the case to the central probe agency.
On Tuesday, the division bench of the Calcutta HC admitted the West Bengal government’s plea. The matter is likely to be taken up later this week.
Earlier, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had carried out raids at the residence of Ayan Sil, a close aide of expelled TMC leader Santanu Banerjee, during which several documents related to recruitment in municipalities were found and seized.
The central probe agency claimed that it had unearthed a municipality recruitment scam, and alleged that there was corruption in the recruitment of various posts across different municipalities of West Bengal.
