By Pankaj Upadhyay: Four Muslim men were arrested and booked by the police in Maharashtra’s Nashik for allegedly forcing their way into the famous Trimbakeshwar temple. The state government has also set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the incident.
The accused men, identified as Akil Yousuf Sayyed, Salman Akil Sayyed, Matin Raju Sayyed, and Salim Bakshu Sayyed, were arrested on Tuesday after the temple trust filed a complaint.
The incident took place on May 13 when the four men allegedly tried to enter the temple premises as part of a Sandal juloos (procession) and tried to offer a chadar to the Shivling. A Sandal procession is held in honour of great Muslim saints as part of their Urs (death anniversary).
The Trimbakeshwar temple, renowned as one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, strictly permits entry to Hindus only. The temple management lodged a complaint with the police after security guards successfully prevented the group from gaining access to the sacred site. Videos capturing the incident went viral on various social media platforms, drawing attention to the matter.

On the other hand, Sandal organiser Matin Sayyed told India Today that they have been showing the chadar to Lord Shiva on the day of Sandal for years and that they do not go inside the temple. He claimed that the accused men did not try to offer chadar to the Shivling and they only carried the chadar to the temple steps.
Following the complaint by the temple trust, the four men were arrested on Tuesday and booked under sections 295 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Further, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered the formation of a SIT. In a tweet, Fadnavis expressed his determination to maintain law and order in Maharashtra and said, “As I said yesterday, anyone who tries to disturb the law and order situation in Maharashtra will not be spared! These are deliberate attempts and it will not be tolerated at all. Our Police were and are on alert mode 24×7!”
