By Himanshu Mishra: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the Parliament Building. The final touches are being given and are likely to be completed by the end of May.
A grand ceremony could be organized at the end of May, on the ninth anniversary of the Modi government to inaugurate the new building, sources informed India Today. However, there is no official confirmation yet from the government.
Prime Minister Modi took oath on May 26, 2014, along with the Council of Ministers after a landslide victory in the 2014 Loksabha elections.
NEW PARLIAMENT BUILDING
The new building is part of the redevelopment of the Central Vista project revamping the three-km road from the Rashtrapati Bhavan to the India Gate, constructing a common central secretariat, a new office and residence of the prime minister, and a new vice-president enclave also part of the project being executed by the Central Public Works Department.
“The new parliament building will be ready before the end of this month. However, there is no official date yet for its inauguration,” sources further informed.
The upcoming new Parliament building is a four-story building with a sitting capacity of more than 12,00 parliamentarians. In the new parliament, marshals of both Loksabha and Rajyasabha will have a new dress code. Security will be further strengthened with added security.
The new building will also have a grand constitution hall to showcase India’s democratic heritage, a lounge for members of Parliament, a library, multiple committee rooms, dining areas and ample parking space.
The original deadline for completing the project was November last year. Tata Projects Limited is constructing the new Parliament Building.
In December 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the new Parliament building which will have modern facilities.
