Those who quit Congress to join BJP lost in Karnataka polls: Sharad Pawar’s warning at NCP meet

[ad_1]

By Mustafa Shaikh: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Wednesday warned party leaders against defection, highlighting the plight of Congress turncoats in the recently held Karnataka polls. Pawar was addressing a meeting of the NCP called to strategise for next year’s Lok Sabha election.

“Karnataka people have voted against those MLAs who left Congress and went with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). BJP was not able to save turncoats from losing the election,” Pawar said.

The NCP has been in the spotlight amidst rumours of a faction from the party joining hands with the BJP in Maharashtra.

By highlighting the Karnataka election results in this manner, Pawar also conveyed a message to MLAs who have abandoned the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition, of which the NCP is a member. “A Karnataka-like anti-incumbency sentiment prevails against the Shinde-Fadnavis government in Maharashtra,” explained NCP spokesperson Mahesh Tapase.

These appointed leaders will oversee the party’s organisational affairs within their respective Lok Sabha and legislative assembly constituencies. Their duties will involve extensive touring of various assembly constituencies to ensure smooth coordination among local leaders and affiliated frontal organisations of the party. Additionally, the NCP is preparing for its 24th foundation day, which will be celebrated with a grand event in Ahmednagar on June 10.

Praful Patel, Leader of Opposition Ajit Dada Pawar, state NCP President Jayant Patil, and senior leaders Chhagan Bhujbal, Dilip Walse Patil, Sunil Tatkare, Jitendra Awhad, Supriya Sule, and Fauziya Khan were present at the NCP core committee meeting.
