By Himanshu Mishra: One person was killed in a late-night firing incident near the Jama Masjid on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. Police officials in the area received a PCR call at around 1:30 am on Thursday regarding the incident. By the time their team reached the spot, the locals had shifted the injured to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.
“A PCR call was received at 1:30 am stating that firing had been noticed neat Jama Masjid. Upon receiving the information, the police team reached the spot and found that the injured had been shifted to a hospital where he was declared brought dead,” a police official probing the case said.

The deceased was identified as Sameer (30), a resident of Chawri Bazar in Delhi. Preliminary investigation revealed that Sameer is the brother-in-law of the owner of the hotel near which the incident happened.
The accused, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, came and fired at the deceased. The murder motive or the reason that triggered the incident was not yet clear.
Sameer received a bullet injury on the head and died while being rushed to the hospital. His body was sent for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, the police have formed several teams to further investigate the case. They have also initiated legal action under appropriate sections of law.
