Karnataka polls: How family politics is huge part of BJP’s second list of candidates

[ad_1]

By Sagay Raj: A day after announcing the names of candidates for 189 seats in the 224-member assembly, the BJP on Wednesday released its second list of 23 candidates for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections to be held on May 10. Interestingly, the national party’s second list has the names of at least seven candidates from political families, which include sons, grandsons and relatives of sitting MLAs or veteran leaders.

The party’s move contradicts the party’s usual stand against ‘parivarvad’ (dynastic politics).

Meanwhile, 12 seats are yet to be named and a third list is expected soon.

Here’s a list of candidates from the party’s second list, who are linked to political families.

  • G Karunakar Reddy from Harappanahalli: His brother Gali Janardhan Reddy is a former MLC and minister and another brother, G Somashekar Reddy, is an incumbent MLA and the candidate from Kampli.

  • Ashwini Sampangi from Kolar Gold Field: Her father Y Sampangi is a former BJP MLA.

  • Somanagouda B Patil (Sasanur) from Devar Hippargi: His father, BS Patil Sasanur, was a former BJP MLA and minister.

  • SD Dileep Kumar from Gubbi: His grandfather, Chikke Gowda, was a former MLA from Gubbi.

  • Prakash Khandre from Bhalki: Prakash Khandre and sitting MLA Eshwar Khandre are cousins.

  • Lalitha Anapur from Gurmitkal: Her father, Moulali Anapur, contested from Yadgir.

  • Ramachandra Gowda from Sidlaghatta: He is the son-in-law of incumbent Chamundeshwari MLA GT Devegowda.
