It has been a year since Punjabi singer-turned-politician Sidhu Moosewala tragically passed at the age of 28. The singer was shot dead by six assailants at Jawahar Ke village in the Mansa district of Punjab on May 29. As of January 2023, 27 people are behind bars out of the 31 individuals against whom FIRs were registered. But, Moosewala’s family says that the ‘real killer’ is yet to be arrested.
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan pays tribute to Sidhu Moosewala on his first death anniversary at a concert in California; dedicates ‘Akhiyan Udeek Diyan’
On the first death anniversary of the singer, fans, celebrities and colleagues took to social media to pay tribute to the rapper. Amongst them is veteran singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan from Pakistan who paid tribute to Moosewala at his California concert. At one of his shows in Oakland a few days ago, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan dedicated his song ‘Akhiyan Udeek Diyan’ to Sidhu Moosewala. In a clip, he says, “Yeh abhi jo qawwali pesh karne ja raha hoon main, yeh Sidhu Moosewala ko yaad karte huye karna chahunga (The qawwali that I am going to present now, I would like to remember Sidhu Moosewala through it).”

Sidhu Moosewala shot to fame in 2017 with his track ‘So High’. He is regarded as one of the most popular independent rappers. He made several hits including ‘Legend’, ‘Devil’, ‘Just listen’, ‘Tibeyan da putt’, ‘Jatt da muqabala’, ‘Brown Boys’ and ‘Hathyar’ among others. His last track was ‘The Last Ride’.
