Composer Lalit Pandit feels he did not work enough with the late singer KK. “And now it’s too late. I remember my brother Jatin and I did one song with him for a film called ‘Dhai Akshar Prem Ke’. He undoubtedly was a gifted singer with a very good voice texture, and he had an open throw voice as a singer,” said Lalit.
Lalit Pandit remembers KK, “He was too young and would have done a lot of good work”
Lalit recalls KK as a wonderful human being. “KK was a very chilled out person and was always happy doing whatever work he got. He would rarely go out to meet composers and ask for work, as most of the singers do. He got work as a singer on merit and he was happy with whatever he had,” he added.
Luckily for KK, whatever songs he sang became successful. Said Lalit, “Notably KK’s songs usually turned out to be hits and his voice was loved by the audiences.”
It was after the Jatin-Lalit split that Lalit realized KK’s full potential. “I did a film called Showbiz produced by Mukesh Bhatt. It was in this film that Mukeshji and I decided to make KK sing all the songs for the film. This is actually where I noticed the depth in his voice and his dedication as an artist. The songs came out very well.”
Lalit feels KK’s songs have remarkable renewability. He said, “I do hear newer singers singing this particular song called ‘Mere Falak Ka Tu Hi Sitara’ (from Showbiz). He had rendered the song very well indeed. I also liked the Vishal-Shekhar song ‘Khuda Jane’ (from Bachna Ae Haseeno). It was well composed and KK was tremendous in it. It’s seldom that I see the present generation of singers lift a composer’s song with their singing. KK did that to the songs which I feel is very commendable!!”
Lalit can’t get over KK’s sudden death. “It was indeed very shocking for the music fraternity to hear suddenly KK had passed away! It was also shocking in the circumstances he died! Tragic indeed!! I feel it’s an artist’s team and his manager who should be responsible to see that an artist does his performance at the correct and comfortable venues! I felt that his manager, whoever it was, goofed up big time to made him perform at a place where it was claustrophobic and dangerous condition! It was a bad accident indeed! He was too young and would have done a lot of good work and contributed to the music industry. Alas!! He is gone and we lost a tremendous talent! He will always be remembered with love,” said Lalit Pandit.
