EXCLUSIVE: Nawazuddin Siddiqui opens up on Bollywood actors attending Cannes Film Festival; says, “One should watch films at the festival and not just walk on the red carpet and come back”
In an exclusive video interview with Bollywood Hungama, when Nawazuddin was asked about one advice he would want to give young actors, he said, “Leave this addiction (addiction of being on phone) and give yourself some time and watch more good films if you want to become an actor. If you want to become a star, then you need to have Rs. 50-60 crore worth money. If you don’t have that much money, then you will have to practise, watch good films which has actors in it. They should go to film festivals. One should watch films at the festival and not just walk on the red carpet and come back. One should watch which country is experimenting with what kind of content.”
Cannes Film Festival 2023 had been more about who wore what, rather than which films were screened. Shedding light on this issue, Nawazuddin stated, “It is our generation’s problem and that too only our industry’s problem. It does not persist in other countries. When people come from other countries, they madly watch the film.”
When Nawaz was asked if he was simply called to Cannes without any of his films being screened, would he go? To this he replied, “No, I won’t go. Why should I?” He further revealed that if he would go to Cannes, he would take his film. “Last time when I went, I went along with the government’s delegation,” said the actor.
Nawaz also shared why would he want to go with his film to Cannes. “To get selected in Cannes Film Festival means that you have achieved something. That sense of achievement always motivates you to come back next year and the year after that. The reception, standing ovation or award you receive, is a different drug,” said Nawaz.
