By India Today News Desk: Atiq Ahmed and brother Ashraf were shot dead while they were speaking to the media personnel regarding them not being allowed to attend Atiq’s son last rites in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. “Main baat ye hai ki Guddu Muslim…” said Ashraf, when the first bullet aimed at Atiq Ahmed’s head was heard.
When asked about giving a statement, Atiq said, “Statement on what?”. Atiq Ahmed further added, “Nahi le gaye to nahi le gaye.”
The firing took place near MLN Medical College premises, where they were being taken for medical examination in Prayagraj. All three shooters, identified as Lavlesh Tiwari, Sunny, and Arun Maurya, have been nabbed by the Uttar Pradesh Police.
The face of the attackers was nearly seen on the camera as they fired the shots from a very close range.
One police constable, Maan Singh, sustained minor injuries.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath summoned senior officials of UP Police, including the director general of police and additional director general of police, for a high-level meeting soon after gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were killed by unidentified assailants amid tight police security in Prayagraj.
