By Manjeet Negi: India is going to buy 250 more Pralay ballistic missiles for the services to strengthen them on the northern borders, further boosting the firepower of the defence forces. The move comes soon after the defence ministry cleared 120 of these weapon systems for the Air Force which cannot be intercepted by any enemy air defence system.
Speaking to India Today, the sources informed, “The proposal for 250 Pralay ballistic missiles is at an advanced stage and will help strengthen the capabilities of forces on the northern borders.”
The use of Pralay tactical ballistic will be the first time in the history of the service, as ballistic missiles have been cleared by the government for use in tactical operations. The clearance of another 250 ballistic missiles to create a rocket force will strengthen the defence services and give them a potent weapon to take out targets in a range of 150 to 500 kilometres.

The missiles will now be mass-produced and are expected to be ready for operational service in the near future, they said. The project would provide a significant boost to the armed forces’ efforts to develop a strategic rocket force, as advocated by late Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat.
Recently, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar said, late General Bipin Rawat was working on the creation of a rocket force to counter enemies on the border. The missile was successfully tested twice on two consecutive days last December, and the forces have been working towards its acquisition and induction ever since.
Pralay, which has a range of 150 to 500 kilometres, is propelled by a solid-propellant rocket motor and other novel technologies.
