By India Today News Desk: Soon after gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother were shot dead by three gunmen, the first reactions of the government came from its ministers. One called it “aasmani faisla (decision of nature)”, while another said it was “paap-punya ka hisaab… (Paying for one’s deeds)”.
Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf were shot point blank on camera in the presence of police personnel in Prayagraj on Saturday night.
UP’s Minister of Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Kumar Khanna said, “When crime reaches its peak…it is the decision of nature…” The BJP leader goes on to add that “we need to accept nature’s decision”.

Soon after the on-camera murders of Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf, UP Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh, without mentioning any name, tweeted, “paap-punya ka hisaab isi janm me hota hai… (One is held accountable for one’s deeds in this life itself)”.
There were diverse reactions to the remarks by the two UP ministers on Twitter.

Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed (60) and his brother Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists in the middle of a media interaction on Saturday night while police personnel were escorting them to a medical college here for a checkup.
The brothers, both jailed in Prayagraj, were in handcuffs when they were killed in full view of camera crews around 10 pm.
Following the incident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday ordered a high-level probe into the sensational killings of the gangsters.
