By Rittick Mondal, Rajesh Saha: After nearly two days of search operation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recovered one mobile phone of TMC MLA Jiban Krishna Saha which he allegedly threw in the pond behind his residence. The MLA is being probed by the central agency since Friday in connection with the Bengal teachers’ recruitment scam.
When the CBI team arrived at Jiban Krishna Saha’s residence on Friday, the officials seized two of his mobile phones. However, the MLA allegedly snatched his mobile phones from CBI officers and threw them into a pond behind his residence.
The CBI launched a search operation to find the mobile phones as officials believe they could contain digital evidence related to the teachers’ recruitment scam.

On Friday night, CBI officials installed one motor pump into the pond to extract water and added two more pumps on Saturday morning. Finally, one mobile was recovered after 32 hours. Search continues for the second mobile phone.
“Searches at the residence of MLA, Burwan constituency, are still in progress. While conducting the searches, five bags of documents were recovered from bushes adjacent to the boundary wall of his residence. The alleged documents affixed with photographs of aspiring candidates who had submitted bribe money were recovered. It was alleged that the bribe collected from the candidates was estimated to be running into multiple crores,” an official said.
Meanwhile, Jiban Krishna Saha has been detained by the central probe agency inside his residence. According to sources, the CBI is likely to take coercive action against the TMC MLA for snatching the mobile phones in a bid to destroy evidence.
