By India Today News Desk: The trial run of Kerala’s first semi-high-speed Vande Bharat Express that will connect Thiruvananthapuram with Kannur began early on Monday.
The train started from Thiruvananthapuram at 5.10 am and reached Ernakulam North Railway Station in 3 hours and 18 minutes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the train service during his scheduled visit to Kerala later this month, according to ANI.
EARLIER VANDE BHARAT ROUTES LAUNCHED
On April 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the Secunderabad-Tirupati Vande Bharat Express. This route has four stops — Nalgonda, Guntur, Ongole and Nellore. The new service is expected to reduce the travel time between the two cities by almost three and a half hours and benefit pilgrim passengers too.
On the same day, the Chennai Central-Coimbatore Vande Bharat Express was flagged off by the Prime Minister. The route has stops in Salem, Erode and Tiruppur. It covers the distance in 5 hours and 50 minutes.

On April 12, PM Modi inaugurated Rajasthan’s first Vande Bharat Express, which runs between Ajmer and Delhi Cantonment, with stops at Jaipur, Alwar and Gurugram. The train covers the distance between Delhi Cantonment and Ajmer in 5 hours 15 minutes.
The Vande Bharat Express train connecting Visakhapatnam with Secunderabad was launched by the Prime Minister on January 15. The train covers the entire distance in 8 hours 30 minutes with stops at Rajamundry, Vijayawada, Khammam and Warangal.
HOW MANY VANDE BHARAT TRAINS ARE OPERATIONAL?
Till now, 14 Vande Bharat Express services have been launched across the country. The first train between New Delhi and Varanasi was made operational on February 15, 2019.
