By Saurabh Pandey: BJP MP Varun Gandhi during a Jan Samvad programme in Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit raised the issue of corruption and criticised state leaders. The Pilibhit MP said leaders who do not have the ‘aukat‘ to even carry his slippers are traveling in a convoy of five vehicles.
Varun Gandhi said, “We have been doing politics in Pilibhit for the last 35 years. My mother [Maneka Gandhi] is one of the top MPs. I am a three-time MP. Have I ever cut a colony? Do we have a big home?”
“Those who weren’t capable of carrying my slippers are now traveling in a 5-vehicle convoy. All these ministers used to beg in front of us to promote them. Requested us to make them ministers. They did not have the audacity to talk in front of us,” he added.
Varun Gandhi, who has been strongly critical of the government’s stand on a host of recent issues, also expressed his disappointment with the current state of politics in the country, stating that people are being robbed by those who were voted into power.

He pointed out that while some have been granted accommodation in three-storey houses, the rest of the needy are still waiting due to the corrupt practices of government officials.
“All this is nothing less than slavery. When elections come, they cast their votes by getting swayed by the feelings of caste and religion. They [politicians] are robbing your pockets,” the MP said.
