The date for the civic elections in Uttar Pradesh has been announced. Although the model code of conduct has come into effect in the whole state, a video has gone viral of a man showering currency notes during a procession taken out on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti.
A procession was taken out in Bilaspur falling under the jurisdiction of Dankaur police station on April 14 to mark the birth anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar. Former chairperson of Bilaspur town Sabir Qureshi reached the procession site with his brother and started showering currency notes.
Moments later, a group of children gathered around him who fought amongst themselves to take the currency notes. A video of the same has gone viral on social media and people are demanding action against Qureshi, whose wife Najma will be contesting from Bilaspur for the post of the chairperson as an independent candidate.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Saad Mian Khan, Greater Noida, said the viral video has come to the attention of the police. “Orders have been given to investigate the video. If anyone is found guilty, we will take immediate action.”
Municipal elections are to be held in Gautam Budh Nagar on May 11. The model code of conduct came into effect on April 6.
