Jairam Ramesh commented on Jaishankar’s tweet slamming Siddaramaiah and said, “This level of nastiness from a man I have known so very wellâ€æ who has developed new loyalties and who wants to show that in whatever he says and does.”

A day earlier, Jaishankar had accused Siddaramaih of politicising the situation of Indians in violence-hit Sudan. In a sharp-tongued tweet, Jaishankar told the former Karnataka CM, “Don’t do politics” because there are lives at stake.

Siddaramaiah had asked the Centre to intervene saying 31 people from Karnataka’s Hakki Pikki tribe are reportedly stranded in Sudan. He said these 31 people have been “left stranded without food since the last few days & the govt is yet to initiate action to bring them back”.

He had appealed to the BJP government saying it should “immediately open diplomatic discussions & reach out to international agencies” to ensure the well-being of the tribals.

Jaishankar had replied to Siddaramaiah, saying he was “appalled” by the latter’s tweet. To this, the Congress leader had retorted, “If you are busy getting appalled please point us to the person who can help us bring our people back.”

Siddaramaiah said he had only appealed to Jaishankar since he was the External Affairs Minister.

According to the UN, the latest death toll in violence-hit Sudan stands at 185 with an additional 1,800 injured. One man from Kerala had succumbed to his injuries after getting hit by a stray bullet during the crossfire.
