By Pramod Madhav: DMK General Secretary and State Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan spoke in the State Assembly about members seeking a new Secretariat building.
Duraimurugan stated that he too, just like other members, wished that Chief Minister Stalin constructed a new Secretariat building for the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
“You have kept a request for a New Secretariat building. I too agree with you. I too urge the Chief Minister. I wish Thalapathy construct a new Secretariat building during his tenure,” stated Duraimurugan.
As certain members hinted that Raj Bhavan land could be used, Duraimurugan agreed. “If you take Raj Bhavan, it’s our land. I’ve read its history. The governor was not present there but only later given residence. So, we can take that land or we can also take Guindy Race Course land which is 700 acre. That is also our land too. I wish the new Secretariat is built in this land or any place during his tenure. He should do it in this period, only then we can witness,” stated Duraimurugan.
His comments about taking over Raj Bhavan land for new Secretariat building construction is speculated as a jibe against Governor Ravi.
Controversy over construction of the Secretariat building is not new in Tamil Nadia as DMK had earlier constructed a new Secretariat attempting to move out of Fort St George but as AIADMK came to power, Jayalalitha converted the building into a multi speciality hospital.
