By India Today News Desk: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has started work to improve a school’s infrastructure after one of its students urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure basic facilities at her school, reported news agency PTI.

Seerat Naaz, a Class 3 student, had recorded a video appealing to PM Modi to consider fixing the dilapidated condition of her school. The video went viral on social media as it was widely circulated.

After the video garnered considerable attention, the Director of School Education Jammu, Ravi Shankar Sharma, visited the government school located in the remote Lohai-Malhar block.

LITTLE GIRL’S PLEA TO PM MODI GOES VIRAL

“Modi ji, mujhe na aap se ek baat kehni hain (Modi ji, there is something I need to tell you.),” said the girl said in the video.

Panning the phone’s camera towards an uncovered concrete surface in front of two closed doors, which she identifies as the “Principal’s office and the staff room”, Naaz said: “Dekho humara farsh kitna ganda ho chuka hain. Humein yahan niche bithate hain (Look how dirty the floor is. They make us sit here).”

“You listen to the entire nation, please listen to me as well and build a nice school for us so that we can continue our education and not get scolded by our mothers for getting our uniforms dirty,” the girl said to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

AUTHORITIES SWING INTO ACTION

No sooner did the video go viral than the Jammu and Kashmir authority took cognisance of the matter.

“A project worth Rs 91 lakh was sanctioned to upgrade the school on modern lines, but the work was stalled due to some issue related to administrative approval. It has now been sorted out, and the work is underway,” Ravi Shankar Sharma was quoted as saying by the news agency PTI.

“We have also started constructing 1,000 new kindergartens in all districts of Jammu province, and in the next three to four years, we will be able to ensure the construction of 250 kindergartens in each of the 10 districts (in Jammu province),” he added.

Naaz, who aspires to be an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, expressed her happiness, saying she was glad that her video helped her school to get a facelift.
