By Sahil Joshi: Industrialist Gautami Adani met Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar at his Mumbai residence today, days after Pawar came out in support of the businessman following allegations of stock manipulation by a US-based short-seller Hindenburg Research’s report.
The crucial meeting at Pawar’s residence, Silver Oak in Mumbai, lasted nearly two hours, according to sources, and comes at a time the Opposition is demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the issue.
Earlier this month, Sharad Pawar extended his support to the Adani group, criticising the narrative around the Hindenburg report on the conglomerate.

Taking a position not in line with its ally – the Congress, Pawar said he was in favour of a Supreme Court committee to probe the allegations against the Adani group since the BJP will have a majority in the JPC due to numerical strength in parliament, which would lead to doubts about such a probe.
The NCP chief later said although his party does not agree with the demands of the anti-BJP parties for a JPC probe, it will not go against their stand for opposition unity.

Last month, the Supreme Court ordered a six-member committee be set up under a former top court judge to look into various regulatory aspects of the stock markets, including the recent crash of Adani Group’s shares triggered by the Hindenburg allegations.
The short-seller made a litany of allegations, including that of fraudulent transactions and share-price manipulation, against the Adani Group, which has dismissed the charges, saying it complies with all laws and disclosure requirements.
