One-member committee to probe heatstroke deaths at Maharashtra Bhushan event

By Ritvick Arun Bhalekar: Maharashtra is forming a one-member committee to investigate the heatstroke deaths at the ‘Maharashtra Bhushan’ award ceremony in Navi Mumbai’s Kharghar. The committee will be headed by the Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue Department and submit its report within a month.

It will also make recommendations to the government regarding steps to be taken in the planning of such events in the future.

Fourteen people died after suffering from dehydration and heatstroke while attending a Maharashtra government event in an open ground at Kharghar on Sunday.

At the ceremony, Union Home Minister Amit Shah conferred the prestigious Maharashtra Bhushan award on veteran social worker Appasaheb Dharmadhikari.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and cabinet ministers were present at the function which was attended by nearly two million people.
