By Amit Bhardwaj: Delhi logged 1,603 fresh Covid-19 cases on Thursday with a positivity rate of 26.75 per cent, according to data shared by the city government’s health department.

The active number of cases in Delhi crossed 6,000 mark and stands at 6,120. A total of three deaths were reported, of which two is related to Covid-19.

Delhi reported 1,767 Covid-19 cases and six deaths on Wednesday. Both the numbers were the highest so far this year, according to the health department data. The positivity rate stood at 28.68 per cent in the national capital on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Delhi logged 1,537 fresh Covid-19 cases with a positivity rate of 26.54 per cent, according to data shared by the city government’s health department.

With the new cases, Delhi’s Covid-19 tally has climbed to 20,25,781, according to a bulletin issued by the health department.

According to medical experts, the Omicron sub-variant XBB.1.16 could be driving the surge in cases in the city. However, they maintained that there is no need to panic and people should follow Covid-appropriate behaviour and get their booster shots.

Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said last week that XBB.1.16 is not leading to severe infection among children.
