By India Today News Desk: A 24-year-old man from Andhra Pradesh, who was pursuing his Masters degree in the United States, was allegedly shot dead at a fuel station where he was working, according to police in the US state of Ohio.

The incident took place in the Columbus division of the state on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Saiesh Veera, a native of Andhra Pradesh.

The Columbus Police officers reached the 1000 block of W. Broad St. at 12:50 am and found Veera suffering from a gunshot wound.

The Columbus Fire service personnel arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital, but despite life-saving measures, Veera was declared dead at 1.27 am, police said.

The incident is under investigation and Veera’s kin have been informed, the police added.

EFFORTS TO BRING BODY TO INDIA

Veera’s friend, Rohit Yalamanchili, who is overseeing an online fundraiser program to send Veera’s body back to India, said that Veera was doing his Master’s course and that he was picked under the H1B visa with his graduation just 10 days away.

He was going to quit his work as a clerk at the fuel station in a couple of weeks, Yalamanchili added.

Veera had come to the US with many aspirations and wanted to uplift his family as his father had died two years ago.

“He was always willing to help people in all situations and was a great sport on the cricket field,” Yalamanchili said, adding that every person who plays cricket in the Columbus area would know him, as he was a brilliant cricketer and a great friend.

“I hope God brings peace to Saiesh, his mother, family, and friends who were touched by his soul,” Yalamanchili further said.
