By Rajesh Saha: A team of eight Central Bureau of Investigation officers searched the home, which also doubles as an office, of another Trinamool Congress MLA, Tapas Saha, in Bengal’s Nadia today. He is an MLA from the state’s Tehatta constituency.
Personnel of the central security force surrounded his home as the agency searched the MLA’s home and office. Several incriminating documents were examined.
The Calcutta High Court had directed the CBI to probe the MLA last Tuesday. Following the high court order, a team of the CBI was at Saha’s residence to question him about the alleged teachers’ recruitment scam.
Allegations of jobs being given to undeserving candidates in exchange for huge sums of money were raised against Saha.

Several candidates alleged that he took bribes by promising jobs, but he could neither provide one nor did he return the money.
An audio recording of Saha with a job aspirant was also shared multiple times on social media. However, India Today TV could not independently confirm the veracity of the clip.
Those who didn’t get their money back from the MLA wrote three separate letters to TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee. Following the complaints, a case was registered by the state police’s anti-corruption branch (ACB) against him.
During the investigation, the ACB arrested three people known to be close associates of the MLA. Of them, one was Saha’s personal assistant.

Saha was also summoned for questioning by the ACB. However, he was neither arrested by the ACB nor was a charge sheet filed in the case. Due to the non-submission of the charge sheet on time, all three accused were granted bail by a lower court.
BJP leader and advocate Tarunjyoti Tewari approached the Calcutta High Court against the ACB, seeking a CBI probe into the case, when the court directed the central probe agency to take over the investigation.
The court also directed the ACB to hand over the case diary and all evidence collected in the case to the CBI immediately.
The CBI, in compliance with the high court order, registered an FIR against Saha.
