Congress leaders shouldn’t do anything that damages party: Gehlot’s veiled attack on Pilot

[ad_1]

By Mausami Singh: In a veiled attack on Sachin Pilot, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday said that Congress leaders or workers should not do anything that damages the party. The remark comes after Sachin Pilot opened a new front against the Gehlot government and held a one-day hunger strike demanding action over alleged corruption during the BJP rule in the state.

Ashok Gehlot, who arrived in Delhi on Friday, was asked about what action had been taken by the party high command amid fresh infighting in the Rajasthan Congress.

In response, Ashok Gehlot said, “Congress leaders or workers should not say or do anything that should harm the party and organisation as no one will be able to compensate for the damage caused.”

PILOT-GEHLOT TUSSLE IN RAJASTHAN

On April 11, Congress leader Sachin Pilot sat on a one-day fast, over “inaction” in alleged cases of corruption during the previous Vasundhara Raje dispensation. The Congress leadership had warned Pilot against such a move, calling it “anti-party”. However, Sachin Pilot defied the party leadership and went ahead with his strike.

A day after Pilot held his fast, Ashok Gehlot side-stepped questions on the protest by his former deputy and instead cited Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) raids on corrupt officers to dismiss charge of inaction in corruption cases.

Earlier this week, senior Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said Sachin Pilot should have raised his demand for action in corruption cases in the Rajasthan Assembly, instead of holding a day-long fast. The AICC in-charge for Rajasthan also said he was “looking minutely” at those working for the Congress party and those creating problems for it.
