By India Today News Desk: After braving intense heat for several days, heat wave conditions subsided over Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, West Bengal and Odisha owing to a western disturbance and a cyclonic circulation over Uttar Pradesh, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday.
“Today, heat wave conditions abated from Gangetic West Bengal after 10 days, from Bihar after 7 days and from Odisha after 5 days,” tweeted IMD.
Earlier on Thursday, light showers had brought some respite to people from the scorching heat in North India as the mercury dipped by a few notches in several states, including Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
HEATWAVE CONDITIONS ABATE, RAIN LIKELY
IMD on Friday forecast rain and thunderstorms in several states of eastern India for the next three days, bringing respite from severe heatwave conditions.
“Heat wave conditions prevailing over Bihar, West Bengal and Odisha since last one week have abated from these regions. This temperature dip is attributed to a Western Disturbance along 72°E and a cyclonic circulation over UP,” IMD said.
Mild temperatures over East India are likely to continue for the next 4-5 days, it added. Meanwhile, northwest and West India are not expected to see any significant change in the next two to three days, according to the IMD.
RAINFALL LIKELY IN THESE STATES
IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya due to a western disturbance, a cyclonic circulation over UP, and moisture incursion owing to an anti-cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal.
Fairly widespread/widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorm with lightning and heavy rainfall likely over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam and Meghalaya till tomorrow, the IMD said.
Light/rainfall along with thunderstorm activity also undergoing over some parts of East UP & Bihar, it added.
DELHI WEATHER UPDATE
Parts of the national capital received light rains on Thursday evening, bringing some respite from the persistent heatwave conditions.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has said that Delhi is expected to witness mainly clear skies on Saturday and the maximum temperature is expected to settle at 37 degrees Celsius.
According to the 7-day forecast, Delhi will see a partly cloudy sky, with the possibility of very light rain and drizzle at one or two places on Sunday. The maximum and minimum temperatures will settle at 37 and 21 degrees Celsius respectively.
