By India Today News Desk: Congress President Mallikarjun on Saturday spoke about Congress’s chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming Assembly elections in Karnataka. Speaking at the India Today Karnataka Roundtable 2023, Kharge said that after the elections, whoever the legislators elect or support that person will be taken into consideration.

“We always follow one methodology. Whoever the legislators election or support will be taken into consideration. Based on the numbers and support of legislators, Congress high-command decides. The decision of the high command is ultimate,” Malliarjun Kharge said.

When asked you (Kharge) are now the high command, the Congress chief said that high command cannot be an individual. “High command means collective leadership. Our working committee is there, the parliamentary board is there, our senior leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are there. We think collectively and take decisions,” he said.

Speaking on speculations about him being the potential chief ministerial candidate of the party, Kharge said, “When I am in a capacity to appoint you as a chief minister, why would say that I should become the chief minister. I am not the aspirant for Karnataka chief ministership, I appoint chief ministers”.

“To become chief minister of one state is better, or to have power to appoint chief ministers for several states, which is better?” he asked.

Kharge also said that he was confident that Congress will win the upcoming Assembly elections in Karnataka. “We are confident because of our work. This time our party is working as one. Secondly, the present government is such a corrupt government. The public wants to kick out the corrupt government,” he said.

Assembly elections in Karnataka are scheduled to be held on 10 May to elect all 224 members of the Legislative Assembly. The votes will be counted and the results will be declared on 13 May.
