Mayawati slams Nitish Kumar for tweaking prison rules to facilitate release of don Anand Mohan

[ad_1]

By Rohit Kumar Singh: Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati has hit out at Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for allegedly tweaking prison rules to facilitate the release of mafia don-turned-politician and former MP Anand Mohan accused in the murder case of Gopalganj district magistrate G. Krishnaiya in 1994.

G Krishnaiya, a Dalit IAS officer, hailed from Mehboob Nagar in Andhra Pradesh (now Telangana) and was serving as Gopalganj district magistrate when he was killed at the age of 37.

In a swipe at Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, Mayawati said, “Bihar government tweaking prison manuals to get Anand Mohan released from jail is being talked about and was a manifestation of Nitish Kumar’s anti-Dalit mind set. Anand Mohan is accused of brutally killing an honest IAS officer like G. Krishnaiya.”

The former UP Chief Minister further said, “…There has been massive anger in the Dalit community across the country on the prospective release of Anand Mohan. The decision of the Nitish Kumar government was anti-Dalit and manifestation of governments encouraging criminal activities. Whatever may be the compulsion, but Bihar government should review this decision.”

Anand Mohan was sentenced to death in the murder case of G Krishnaiya in 2007. However, in 2008, the Patna High Court commuted his sentence to life imprisonment.

Last week, the Bihar government made changes to the prison manual to facilitate Anand Mohan’s release. He is likely to set foot out of prison in the coming week. Anand Mohan is presently out on parole to attend the ring ceremony of his eldest son and RJD MLA Chetan Anand.
