It’s been 2 weeks, still no action on corruption: Sachin Pilot’s fresh salvo at Gehlot

By Dev Ankur Wadhawan: Former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot on Sunday reiterated his demand for action on BJP’s alleged corruption in Rajasthan and said it has been two weeks since his one-day fast and no action has been taken so far. He said even demanding action against corruption is being termed “anti-party” activity.

In his latest salvo at Ashok Gehlot-led state government, Pilot said while in Opposition, the Congress raised the issue of corruption during Vasundhara Raje’s tenure and did not seek votes to arrest patwaris or officers.

“Speaking truth, raising voice against corruption and injustice is among the values of the Congress party. Following these values, I observed a one-day fast on April 11. Today, it’s been two weeks, no action has been taken so far,” Pilot told reporters in Jaipur.

The former deputy chief minister said he welcomes the action taken by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), which arrested several corrupt IAS, IPS, RAS and other officers.

“But when we were in Opposition, we never said that we would catch patwaris or officials. We had said that corruption that happened during Vasundhara Raje’s tenure will be acted against. People gave us vote after hearing that. So, I am again humbly requesting action in the matter,” he said.

“If we all raise corruption done by the BJP or if I raise the corruption issues of the previous Vasundhara Raje government and demand action on them, then I believe that it is for the benefit of the party,” Pilot further said.

On the notice issued to him by the Congress over his day-long protest, Pilot said he was surprised by the statement as everyone knew why he was holding the protest.

“I was surprised. I believe that raising questions against corruption during BJP and Vasundhara Raje’s rule is not anti-party activity,” he said.

Sachin Pilot’s agitation amid a factional feud in the Rajasthan Congress is seen as an attempt to put pressure on the party one last time to resolve the leadership issue ahead of Assembly polls due later this year.
