By Kamaljit Kaur Sandhu: After a long manhunt that spanned over a month, Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh was arrested on Sunday by the Punjab Police. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that the state could have arrested Amritpal on March 18 but their aim was to avoid any bloodshed. March 18 was when the Punjab Police launched a crackdown against the Khalistani separatist and his aides.
CM Bhagwant Mann pointed out that Amritpal Singh was arrested “without firing a single bullet”. He called the entire episode a “deep-rooted conspiracy to disturb the peace, amity and brotherhood” in Punjab, adding that the state government foiled it by arresting all the key players.
“The self proclaimed religious leader Amritpal Singh, who ran an organization which provoked youth to take arms and indulge in illegal activities against the country, has been arrested,” Bhagwant Mann said on Sunday.

He further clarified that no action was taken against any innocent person.
“Law is taking its own course in the case of Amritpal Singh, who was a stooge in hands of the forces inimical to the state and country, and no action is being taken against the innocents”, CM Bhagwant Mann said in a statement issued on Sunday.
ABOUT THE OPERATION TO NAB AMRITPAL
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said that he was aware of the operation to nab absconding Waris Punjab de chief Amritpal Singh since Saturday evening. He said that he had a sleepless night and kept track of updates on the operation every 15 minutes from the officers.

Bhagwant Mann said that when Amritpal had attacked Ajnala Police station by taking shield of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji, he had directed the police to ensure that no disrespect of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji takes place. He said that Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji is supreme for them due to which the police gave due respect to the vehicle carrying it and allowed its free movement.
Though during that incident some police officers were injured, it was ensured that the supremacy of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji was ensured, CM Bhagwant Mann said.
Mann also thanked the people of Punjab for maintaining peace and communal harmony in the state during an over 30-day-long hunt for Amritpal.
Punjab has a very fertile land and anything can germinate on it except hatred and animosity, CM Bhagwant Mann said after Amritpal Singh’s arrest.
