By Rajesh Saha: A massive fire broke out at a slum adjacent to Falguni housing complex at Salt Lake in Kolkata on Sunday. Around 50 shanties were burnt to ashes in the fire. As many as 10 fire tenders rushed to the spot and are working to extinguish the fire. However, no loss of life was reported.
The cause of the fire is still not known and is being investigated. The fire is suspected to have been caused due to a cylinder blast. The sound of an explosion of cylinders was heard from kilometers away.
A huge police force from Bidhannagar South Police Station has been deployed at the place of the incident. Around 500 people live in the slum. Due to the congested slum area, the fire fighters had to struggle more to put out the fire.
West Bengal Fire and Emergency Services Minister Sujit Bose also visited the location. The minister claimed that no casualties have been found so far. The fire is now under control.
