By India Today News Desk: Indians, who landed in New Delhi after being evacuated from the crisis-hit Sudan by the government under Operation Kaveri, lauded the efforts of the Indian Army and arrangements of the government.

The evacuees outside the Delhi Airport were seen raising slogans in praise of the country, the Army and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Slogans like ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’, ‘Indian Army Zindabad’ and ‘PM Narendra Modi Zindabad’ were chanted by them.

“I went there for an IT project and got stuck there. The embassy and the govt also helped a lot. Around 1000 people are present in Jeddah. Govt is doing fast evacuation,” Surender Singh Yadav, an Indian national who returned from Sudan, was quoted as saying by the news agency ANI.

“I am thankful to Indian Army, PM Modi, EAM Dr S Jaishankar for the evacuation,” Paras, an evacuee, was quoted as saying by the agency.

“Indian govt is currently the only govt that has put more focus on Indian citizens including diplomats. Developed countries are primarily focusing on diplomats,” said another evacuee Gaurav Jain.

A commercial plane carrying 360 Indians rescued from Sudan landed in New Delhi on Wednesday evening.

The Saudi Arabian Airlines flight departed from Jeddah King Abdulaziz International Airport at 1.56 pm and reached Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport at 9 pm.

The government launched an evacuation mission for its citizens stuck in Sudan following the fighting between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Under its evacuation mission ‘Operation Kaveri’, India is taking the evacuees to the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah from where they are returning home.

India is scrambling to get its citizens out of the conflict zone before the end of a tenuous ceasefire between the regular army and a paramilitary force. So far, at least 534 Indian nationals have been evacuated from Sudan.

Two C-130J military transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force brought to Jeddah 256 Indians from Port Sudan on Wednesday, a day after an Indian Navy ship rescued 278 citizens from that country.

Apart from the Sudanese authorities, the MEA and the Indian embassy in Sudan have been in regular touch with the UN, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, and US among others.
