Tamil Nadu audio-tape row: ADMK says CM Stalin’s silence creating suspicion

[ad_1]

By Pramod Madhav: All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) General Secretary Edappadi Karuppa Palaniswami (EPS) has launched a fresh attack on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, saying that he is creating suspicion in people’s minds by not responding to the audio tape row.

His statement comes days after the BJP’s state unit knocked on the doors of Raj Bhavan with a plea for an inquiry into Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan’s (PTR) purported remarks about the assets of the DMK’s ‘first family’ in an audio clip, which PTR claimed was “fabricated.”

“This is an issue involving CM Stalin’s family. We are not saying this but the finance minister had said so. Why hasn’t the Chief Minister replied to this? Why has he not replied to the allegations against his son and son-in-law? This only leads to suspicion,” claimed EPS.

“We didn’t say anything for three days. But after he responded, we turned suspicious. Imagine a state’s finance minister claiming that Sabareesan and Udhayanidhi Stalin were wondering what to do with Rs 30,000 crore. It is really dangerous. The Centre should investigate if they committed corruption. We have asked the Minister (Amit Shah) to take up the matter during our yesterday’s meeting. He has heard the audio,” EPS said.

EPS on Wednesday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday. The meeting, which lasted for around 50 minutes, is said to have ironed out various creases that had evolved between the Tamil Nadu BJP and AIADMK.

While speaking about the meeting, EPS said, it was a courteous meeting just like the one that took place five months ago. EPS also assured that their alliance with BJP, which began in 2019, will still continue.

Referring to his earlier comment where he called Annamalai and immature politician, EPS said there was never an issue between the two. “Your question is wrong. We have no problem with BJP leader Annamalai. If we had issues, how would he have come for the Erode by-poll campaign? The media is trying to create confusion with such questions,” he said.
