Over 6,500 avail Kochi water metro services on Day 1

By Shibimol KG: As many as 6,559 passengers travelled via the Kochi water metro boats on the first day of its operations on Wednesday, Kochi Water Metro Limited (KWML) officials said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi flaged off India’s first water metro that connects 10 islands around Kochi through battery-operated electric hybrid boats for seamless connectivity with the city on April 25.

In a statement, the Kochi Water Metro Limited (KWML) authorities said, “The first day of commercial operations of the Kochi Water Metro has been successfully completed. Boats operated in every 15 minutes from 7 am to 8pm in the High court -Vypin route from both the terminals. The first day of commercial operations had a ridership of 6559 passengers in the route. The service on the Vyttila-Kakkanad route began today.”

The tickets for the boat trip start at Rs 20. For frequent travellers, there are weekly and monthly passes available.

Using a Kochi One Card, one can travel on both Kochi Metro Rail and Kochi Water Metro. The Kochi One App allows users to digitally purchase tickets.
