By Shilpa Nair: The BJP will never dare to have a Dalit to head the party, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said. “The BJP can’t stomach the fact that a Dalit leader from Karnataka, someone who was elected nine times, became the Congress president. The BJP will never make a Dalit or a person from the Scheduled Castes community their party’s president,” Surjewala said.
“Mallikarjun Kharge has risen from the post of block president to Congress president. The BJP will not dare have a Dalit party president,” he added.
The BJP has been rattled by what happened today, the Congress spokesperson said. “Firstly, the Congress filed an FIR against Union Home Minister Amit Shah. We have also filed a complaint with the Election Commission over his false, fake, derogatory and divisive speech. The EC has fixed April 28 for the hearing.

“Secondly, PM Modi, on a programme on a news channel, mocked the suicide of a professor’s daughter. No other PM has ever been this insensitive. I wish PM Modi had children. He would have known the pain of losing a child then,” he said.
Lashing out at the prime minister for never apologizing for any derogatory remarks, Surjewala asked: “Has PM Modi ever apologised for the “50 crore girlfriend” comment? Isn’t it the same PM who called Sonia ji “jersey cow”? Did he apologise to her? Didn’t he call her “Congress ki widow”? Did he apologise for that? Didn’t the PM mock the Hathras victim? Didn’t he mock the Dalit family in Una who was publicly flogged? Has PM Modi ever apologised for the personal attacks he has made against Sunanda Tharoor?
The Congress and Mallikarjun Kharge’s fight is not with any individual, he said, adding, “Kharge said he has not referred to the PM in a personal fashion. He was not trying to hurt anyone’s sentiments.” Earlier in the day, the Congress president faced flak for calling PM Modi “a poisonous snake”.

“Kharge ji said he has felt the pain of the Dalits and backward classes. He pointed out that the DNA of the BJP is anti-Dalit and anti-poor. That’s why it’s an ideological battle. This election is not about PM Modi or Kharge ji. This election is about the 6.5 crore Kannadiga brothers and sisters. We have fought with the British. We will fight with the BJP too.”
“They want to insult Kharge ji because he is a Dalit who has risen from poverty,” Surjewala concluded.
