By India Today News Desk: The newly-launched Hazrat Nizamuddin-Rani Kamalapati Vande Bharat Express rammed into a cow near Gwalior station in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday evening. The accident resulted in damage to the train’s front portion, an official told PTI.

The Hazrat Nizamuddin-Rani Kamalapati Vande Bharat train hit the cow around 6.15 pm when the animal suddenly came on the tracks going towards Dabra in Gwalior.

The Bhopal-bound Vande Bharat Express (No 20172) hit the cow around 6.15 pm and stopped at the spot for about 15 minutes, the official added. The train resumed its journey after the necessary repair of the damaged portion.

The semi high-speed train was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 1. Addressing a gathering after the flagging-off ceremony, PM Modi said, “Our endeavour is to transform the railway sector and make travel convenient for citizens.”

The train, the country’s 11th Vande Bharat Express, covers 708 kilometres in 7.45 hours. The PM said that Vande Bharat is a symbol of the new developments in India and there’s a demand for it in every corner of the country.

Taking a jibe at rival Congress, the PM said the grand old party will say “Modi will pull an April Fool’s prank” during this event.
