Chhattisgarh Maoist attack: Grieving wife lay down on husband’s pyre, says ‘burn me before him’

By Sumi Rajappan: Ten security personnel of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the driver of their vehicle were killed in an IED blast triggered by Naxals in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada on Wednesday. They were on anti-Maoist operations in the area.

In the village of Kasoli, the wife of one of the martyred personnel lay down on the pyre that was decorated for her husband’s last rites. She said, “Burn me before him.”

The scene left everyone present there in tears, as they witnessed the agony and anguish of a wife who had just lost her husband. The children of the martyrs were seen crying for their father, and the grief of their family members was palpable.

The women commandos of DRG were also seen weeping.
