Acting on a tip-off, the BSF officers deployed at the Indian ICP Petrapole apprehended the accused who was about to enter the Indian border from the passenger terminal with the gold. Upon arrival, they stopped the lady and inspected her.

The officers then discovered 27 different types of gold bars that were wrapped in a cloth, which was tied around her waist.

The Bangladeshi woman was identified as Manika Dhar, 34, who was said to be a resident of Bangladesh’s Chittagong. During the interrogation, she admitted that Suman Dhar, a resident of Chittagong, had given her the gold bars. She was then instructed to deliver the golden biscuits to an unknown person in Bengal’s Barasat.

She further admitted that this was her first time to smuggle gold and that she was going to be paid Rs 2,000 for her work.

The security force then handed over the accused and the gold bars to the custom office at Petrapole to carry out further legal action.
