By Rajesh Saha: The Inspector-in-charge of Kaliaganj police station in West Bengal’s Uttar Dinajpur district has been removed from his post after violence gripped the area last week following the alleged rape and murder of a 17-year-old girl.
Officer Dipanjan Das transferred to Siliguri, where he will serve as an inspector in GRP.
The decision to remove Das from his post was taken in light of the unrest that had taken place in the area following the death of the minor girl. A demonstration over the girl’s death had turned violent as a mob set the Kaliaganj police station on fire, and thrashed on-duty police personnel. The protestors claimed she was raped and murdered, though a preliminary post-mortem examination report did not indicate that.

Inspector Subal Chandra Ghosh has been appointed as the new Inspector in charge of Kaliaganj police station.
Four Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) rank police personnel were suspended earlier for dragging the dead body of the minor girl. Superintendent of Police of Raiganj Police District, Sana Akhtar, has also announced that a departmental inquiry will continue against them. This time the administration took a bigger step into the incident, she added.
