[ad_1]

By Divyesh Singh: Two Russians — an Olympic medal winning swimmer and a former police officer — and an Indian ran an international drug cartel based out of Goa before they were arrested in a two-week-long massive crackdown by the Narcotics Control Bureau.

S Varganova, a 1980 Olympic silver medal winner, was at the forefront of the Russian drug cartel and was involved in the supply of drugs to foreign nationals. Based on a tip-off, the NCB launched an investigation and found that Varganova, a Russian national, was operating with two others, including a local resident.

Akash, the local resident, was put under discreet surveillance after the NCB found he was part of a larger network and was working at the direction of another Russian, the kingpin of the drug cartel.

After extensive intelligence-based operations, a Russian national named Andre, a former police officer, was apprehended and 20 LSD blots were seized from him. During his spot interrogation, he revealed that he was growing hydroponic weed at his local residence. Three pots of hydroponic weed plants were recovered from his house

Andra had visited many cities to spread his network and had been managing the well-spread network of street peddlers, the central agency said.
